Arradean "Big Mama" Green

GREEN, Mrs. Arradean "Big Mama" - age, 81, passed away, Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at West Bloomfield Nursing Center. Family hour 10:30 AM Saturday, July 23, 2016 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 N. Perry St., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11:00 AM. Rev. Anthony Simpson, Officiating. Interment Perry Mount Park Cemetery, 878 North Perry Street. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 AM Saturday. Mrs. Green will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM Friday. Arradean Virginia Gale Green was born May 10, 1935 in Fowlstown, Georgia to the late Georgia M. Bolden-Williams. She was raised by her grandparents Emma and William Bolden. Arradean was raised on a farm and throughout her childhood she did various jobs including picking cotton in the fields and harvesting vegetables. She was a lifelong resident of Pontiac, MI. Graduated from High School 1953 in Bainbridge, GA. She completed two years of education at Albany State College Business School where she achieved high honors. She left college in 1955 and moved to Pontiac, Michigan to begin her life up north with her husband. Arradean married Willie Frank Green on May 22, 1952. To this union eight daughters; and two sons were born. Arradean had a strong worth ethic and did Domestic and caretaker work until she retired at the age of 68. In addition to a strong work ethics, she valued education and she and her husband supported their children in completing their education and pursuing their dreams. Arradean’s hobbies included shopping, gossiping with friends, telling stories to her family, garage sale hopping, traveling, watching Matlock and spending time with her children. She also was an amazing cook! Arradean was a mother, grandmother and great grandmother who worked hard to ensure her children were loved and supported. Arradean spent her last days enjoying her life by sharing stories, jokes, reminiscing on past joys and pains with family, and flirting with the male nurses. Although she was confined to the nursing home for the last three years she did not complain. She lived well and was well loved. When asked how she was doing she would sing “I Feel Good Like James Brown”. Mrs. Green leaves to cherish her memory, eight daughters, Barbara Green of Royal Oak, MI; Marsha Green of Farmington Hills, MI, Donna Thomas of Atlanta, GA, Willonna Green of Farmington Hills, MI, Emma (Reginal) Bryant of Shaker Heights, OH, Elaine Green of Signal Hill, CA, Marcerlean Green of Farmington Hills, MI, Sharnola Green (Tony Tuggle) of Farmington, MI. And, one son: Willie Green, II of Pontiac, MI; grandchildren: Yarisha Johnson of Farmington Hills, Antoine Green of Pontiac, David Thomas of Atlanta, GA, Aja and Nahla Green-Walker of Farmington, Zahra Tuggle of Farmington and Mia and Alanna Bryant of Shaker Heights, OH; great-grandchildren; Aminah Johnson of Tokyo, Japan, Amara, Zuri and Michael Berry of Farmington, Rashawn Black of Pontiac, MI, Alex and Austin Green of Pontiac, Ayonna Green of Rochester, MI, Myles Green of Atlanta, Amaya Green of Rochester, MI, Chasity Walker of Pontiac, Anaya, David III, and Xavier Thomas of Atlanta, GA; cousin: Lillian of Brooklyn, NY; sisters-in-law Brenda Whittenberg and Linda Green of Tallahassee, FL; brothers-in-law Lonnie Green of Pontiac, MI and Richard and Ronnie Green of Bainbridge, GA; and a host of other relatives and friends including special friends; Inez Jackson of Pontiac, MI. Mrs. Green was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Frank Green; son, Gary Green; parents, and brother, George Williams.
