Deacon James Luther "Jim" Edwards

EDWARDS, Deacon James Luther "Jim" - age 74, passed away, Friday, November 27, 2015 at his residence. Family hour 10:30AM Saturday December 5, 2015 at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 599 Michigan, with funeral service commencing immediately at 11:00AM. Pastor Jerry Love, officiating. Interment Perry Mount Park Cemetery, 878 N. Perry St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30AM. Deacon Edwards will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 N. Perry St., and may be viewed from 1:00PM-8:00PM Friday. Deacon James Luther Edwards was born September 8, 1941 in Lodi, Mississippi, the son of James Vardman K. Edwards and Alma Caffey Harris. James Edwards was a resident of Rochester Hills, since 1985. Deacon Edwards accepted Christ at a early age. James graduated from Carrie Dotson High School. After graduating from high school he received a four year scholarship for football to Mississippi Valley State University. After college, James would migrate north in search of a better future for himself and his growing family. Deacon Edwards sought out employment and later retired from General Motors Corporation, after working in Skill Trades for thirty-five years. While working at General Motors he worked also as a training supervisor. Most of all Deacon Edwards enjoyed teaching his son’s good work ethics. He embraced the American Dream and owned and operated a Asphalt business for many years, a business in which he taught his sons all about. Being retired James, enjoyed the quietness of his neighborhood and the animals that often visited his property. He enjoyed cooking outside when the weather was conducive; also he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and his best friend and wife, Geneva. During the summer months he enjoyed traveling to various states. He especially enjoyed visiting his home state. James will truly be missed by his family and friends, but as a Christian family we truly believe in the letter that Paul wrote Timothy in 2 Timothy 4:7-8 which reads: I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. Deacon Edwards has now been set free to the land of the no mores. Deacon Edwards leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Geneva Edwards of Rochester Hills, MI; sons, Kenneth (Cassandra) Of Claremont, CA, Rodney (Joanne) of Stone Mountain, GA Reginald (Stephanie) Cedric (Felicia) all of Pontiac, MI, James (Nichole) of Auburn Hills, MI and Carlos (KaTanya) Edwards of Pontiac, MI; twenty grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; sisters, Fannie McCain of Gore Spring, MS, Magnolia Campbell of Chicago, IL, Christine Edwards-Key, LeDoris Edwards, Patricia Edwards, Angela Darlene Edwards (Larry Scales), Carolyn Edwards and Janet Edwards-Fowler all of Milwaukee, WI; brothers, Gregory Harris of Grenada MS, J.D. Edwards, Larry Edwards, Dwayne (Donna) Edwards and Jerry (Mae) Edwards all of Milwaukee, WI; sister-in-law, Iola Denise Holmes; brothers-in-law, Dr. J. B. (Hattie) Flowers, Rev. Dr. Christopher (Bertha) Flowers, James Arthur (Dorothy) Flowers, Walter Lee Flowers; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins and other relatives and friends. Deacon Edwards was preceded in death by his son, Michael W. Edwards; parents, James Vardman K. Edwards and Alma Caffey Harris; brother, Sidney Harris; Father and Mother-in-law, J.B (Gladys) Flowers; sister-in-law, Mary Massaquoi; brother-in-law, Johnny Flowers.
