MEADOWS, Mr. Orlander Jr. - Age 76, passed away Sunday, September 26, 2010 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Oakland.Family hour 12:00PM Saturday, October 2, 2010 at Providence Missionary Baptist Church, 299 Bagley St., with funeral service commencing immediately at 1PM. Pastor Robert Martin, officiating. Interment Oak Hill Cemetery, 216 University Dr. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 12:00PM Saturday. Mr. Meadows, Jr. will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 N. Perry St., and may be viewed from 2-8PM Friday. Mr. Orlander Meadows Jr. was born October 24, 1949 in Round Knob, Illinois the son of Orlander Sr. and Wilma Meadows. He was the oldest of seven children. In 1949, he came to Michigan to find work. Early in life he met Rosetta Pryor, and to this union four children were born. Mr. Meadows ran a successful Lawn Service for thirty-seven years. He mentored many family members as well as neighborhood children. He worked with them and kept them out of trouble. He taught them the value of a "paycheck." Mr. Meadows was a faithful member of Providence Missionary Baptist Church, and an active member of the Usher Board. Orlander had a soft heart, he loved and cared for everyone he encountered. He had love and concern for mankind. In his own words "I done my job." He did it above and beyond. He loved going to the auto auction and playing cards with his friends at Woodland Heights where he lived. Mr. Orlander Meadows Jr. leaves to cherish his memory: three daughters, Nina Toie (Wendell) Turner Sr., Vernita Thomas, Peggy Sue Meadows; four step-children, Johnnie, Alfred, Wendy and Linda Childs; six grandchildren, Devina (Stanley) Irving, DeAndre Meadows, Jermaine Eloby, Lamont Thomas II, Wendell Turner Jr., Nuroyea Gipson; twelve great-grandchildren including six great-grandchildren, Dequave Abcumby, DeAndre II, Quamae Meadows, Hannah Vigeula, Demara "Snoop" Meadows, Jaden Thomas; two sisters, Mabel Duffie and Willie Marie (Overtis) Warren; three brothers, Charles Meadows, Roy (Pearlie) Meadows, Robert (Bertha) Meadows; and a host of other relatives and friends. Including special friend, Sue Burton. Mr. Orlander Meadows Jr. was preceded in death by his loving wife, Rosetta Meadows; daughter, Belinda Joyce; parents, Orlander Sr. and Wilma Meadows; sister, Phyllis Meadows; sister-in-law, Sulean Yarbro; favorite cousin, Billy Meadows.
