WHEELER, Captain "Johnnie" Jr. - age 72, passed away, Thursday, June 11, 2015 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Oakland. Family hour 10:00AM Saturday, June 20, 2015 at St. James Missionary Baptist Church, 345 Bagley St., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Pastor Larry Spann, Worship Leader. Reverend Jerry Walker, Eulogist. Interment Perry Mount Park Cemetery, 878 N. Perry. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00AM Saturday. Mr. Wheeler will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 N. Perry St., and may be viewed from 1:00 PM - 8:00PM Friday. Mr. Captain “Johnnie” Wheeler Jr. was born in Montgomery, Alabama to the late Captain and Zella Wheeler Sr. on September 24, 1942. He departed this life on June 11, 2015 at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital in Pontiac, Michigan. Captain was the third child of ten siblings, with four brothers and five sisters. He was united in marriage to June Wheeler and for more than thirty-six years they shared their love for each other. Captain accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. Upon relocating to Michigan, he later united with the St. James Missionary Baptist Church where he served faithfully until his health began failing him. Captain was employed at Pontiac Motors for thirty years where he worked as a Crane Operator. He had a love for gardening, playing cards, watching wrestling, traveling and spending quality time with family and loved ones. Mr. Wheeler leaves to cherish his memory: a loving and devoted wife, June Wheeler; four daughters, Bonita Reid of Atlanta, GA, LaKisha (Marcus) Robinson of Las Vegas, NV, Tawanna (Jason) Wheeler of Lawrenceville, GA and Ayanna (Jamal) Wheeler; three sons, Captain Wheeler III, Joseph L. Wheeler of Montgomery, AL, Courtenay (Kiecenia) Robinson of Pontiac, MI; twenty three grandchildren; one great grandchild; siblings, Joe (Gloria) Wheeler, Roosevelt (Dorothy) Wheeler, Lula Wheeler of Pontiac, MI, Karo Thomas of Mongomery, AL; brother-in-law, Henry Ware of Pontiac, MI, George Robinson of Los Angeles, CA, Walter Ray (Elnora) Robinson of Jonesville, LA; three aunts, Ida Julius, Annie Mae Walker of Pontiac, MI and Louellen Pettiway of Montgomery, AL; and a host of other relatives and friends.
