Cheryl "Squirrel" Knight

KNIGHT, Mrs. Cheryl Renee "Squirrel" - Age 50, passed away Sunday March 29, 2009 at St. Joseph Mercy-Oakland Hospital. Family hour 11:00AM Saturday, April 4, 2009 at Welcome Missionary Baptist Church, 143 Oneida St., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11:30AM. Pastor Douglas P. Jones, officiating. Interment Perry Mount Park Cemetery, 878 N. Perry St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11AM Saturday. Mrs. Knight will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 N. Perry St., and may be viewed from 12 t0 7PM Friday. Cheryl Renee Knight was born to the union of Dudley Sr., and Verdia Mahone with a grand debut into time on June 5, 1958 in the city of Pontiac, Michigan. She was affectionately called "Squirrel" by her loved ones. Cheryl completed high school at Pontiac Northern High and Sawyer Business College as an Administrative Secretary. In 1978, she found gainful employment at General Motors where she worked until she retired in 2003. Cheryl loved life! During her adolescent years, often her mother had to make her come in from outside because she never seemed to want to stop playing. Two of her favorite things to do were roller-skating and dancing. It was fun just watching her because she made them look so easy. Her dancing was beyond ordinary, it was an art. Cheryl was married to the love of her life, Ernest Ray Knight and together they raised two lovely daughters, Shameca and Erneisha. God blessed them with two bundles of joy Nivia and Iyonna but to Grandma, they were her "Squitta Bug" and "YaYa." Early Sunday morning on March 29, 2009, Cheryl was born again, but this time into eternity. She leaves to cherish her memory forever a loving husband, Ernest; two daughters, Shameca and Erneisha of Pontiac, MI; two granddaughters, Nivia and Iyonna; parents, Dudley (Verdia) Mahone Sr. of Pontiac; mother-in-law, Marie Knight; three sisters, Lareuthia Mahone of San Diego, CA; Janet Mahone and Peggy Knight of Pontiac; three brothers, Dudley (Rosemary) Mahone Jr., of Davisburg, MI, Andre (Belinda) Mahone of Los Angles, CA, and Kenneth Mahone of Atlanta, GA; two special nephews, Duane E. (Letisha) Knight and Little Willie of Pontiac; a best friend who was like a sister, Gloria Reid; a host of nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, family members and friends.
