Emmett "Skid Row" Davis

DAVIS, Mr. Emmett W. "Skid Row" Jr. - Age 67, passed away Sunday September 2, 2012 at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital. Family hour 12:30PM Monday September 10, 2012 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 N. Perry St., with funeral service commencing immediately at 1:00PM. Pastor Darren Johnson, Eulogist Pastor Ernest Johnson, officiating. Interment Perry Mount Park Cemetery, 878 N. Perry St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 12:30PM Monday. Mr. Davis will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 N. Perry St., and may be viewed from 10AM-6PM Sunday. Mr. Emmett W. Davis Jr. was born December 16, 1944 in Farmerville, Louisiana, the son of Brooksie Owens and Emmett W. Davis Sr. He was raised by his cousin, Luedella Davis and Bennie Brown-Davis. Emmett accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Millard Hill Baptist Church, later went on to Blooming Grove Baptist Church in Farmerville, Louisiana. He educated in the Louisiana school system and graduated from East Side High School, “Class of 1962.” Shortly after graduating high school, Emmett went on to attend Grambling University, and later attending Baker College, were he studied Graphic Design. Upon moving to Michigan, he united with New Era Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Ernest Johnson. Emmett has worked in construction for many years and he also had his own business where he made portraits and graphic design photos. He enjoyed computers, graphic design, watching movies. Emmett’s passion was photography and videos. He would participate in many art competitions in his teenage years in Baton Rouge, LA, and placed well in each competition. Mr. Davis leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Shirley Davis; ten children, Valerie Williams, Regina Robinson, Andre Davis, Roderick Davis, Darnell Kinte Smith, Sharekia Evans, LaQuanta Davis, Keauna and Deauna Davis; grandchildren, Devona Samples, Roderick Davis Jr., Adonica Smith, Armani Robinson, Destiny Green, Nigeria Davis, Yazmin Davis, Ezekiel Davis, Marcayl Shelton all of Pontiac, MI; step-mother, Sletter B. Davis; two sister, Mary Jean (Willie) Sawyer, Linda K. Loyd both of Farmerville, LA; three brothers, Robert (Beverly) Loyd of Farmerville, LA, Larry (Lynn) Manning, Jerry Wayne Davis both of Monroe, LA; special nieces, Sharon Fountain and Kenyatta Simon; and a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Gene and Jessie Jackson. Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his son, Bryan Donaldson; parents, Brooksie Owens and Emmett W. Davis Sr.; sister, Amy Kimp; brother, Walter Davis; cousins, Princey Lee and Betsy Lee Davis and Luedella and Bennie Brown-Davis and Amos Davis.
