George Flagg

FLAGG, Mr. George "GW" - Age 83, passed away Thursday, August 26, 2010 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Oakland. Family hour 10:30AM Friday September 3, 2010 at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 599 Michigan Ave., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11AM. Dr. William H. Dulaney, officiating. Interment Perry Mount Park Cemetery, 878 N. Perry St. Friends and pallbearerrs will assemble at the church 10:30AM Friday. Mr. Flagg will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 N. Perry St., and may be viewed from 1-8PM Thursday. George W. Flagg was born October 9, 1926 in Ripley, TN the son of the late Julius and Edna Flagg. George accepted Christ at an early age in Tennessee, after which he moved to Centralia, IL. As a youngster he received his education from the Illinois School System. He began working for the Illinois Railroad as a young adult where he was recognized as an individual with perfect attendance. He moved away and began his new life in Pontiac, MI, where he worked for the City of Pontiac as a laborer until he retired in 1987. His hobbies included working in his garden and spending "good time" with family and friends. His interest was working with the Elks Lodge Local #723 where he was a member. George was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and a very good provider for his family. George W. Flagg leaves to cherish his memory: nine children, Linda Reid, James (Iva) Simpson, Mildred Simpson, Kenneth Simpson, Anthony (Sylvia) Simpson, Charlene Wellons, Lelah Flagg all of Pontiac, MI Sylvia Flagg of Milwaukee, WI, Arletha Atkins of St. Louis, MO; twenty-eight grandchildren; fifty-four great grandchildren; one sister, Faye Scott of Centralia, IL; two brothers, Jack and Jim Flagg of Centralia, IL, and a host of other relatives and friends including special friend, Rudell "Big Man" Williams. George W. Flagg was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Marie Flagg; parents, Julius and Edna Flagg; sisters, Alba Flagg and Denise Bowers; brothers, Samuel Flagg, Julius Flagg Jr., Larry Flagg, Eugene Flagg, James Allen Flagg; sons, Gregory George Flagg, Jerry Gene Flagg; daughter, Denise Flagg. The family would like to express special thanks to Tony and Sylvia Simpson. We would like to express our sincere appreciation to Tony and his dedication, love, support, hard work, and most of all for being a caring son.
