Hanley Johnson, Sr.

JOHNSON, Mr. Hanley Sr. - age 67, passed away, Saturday, December 5, 2015 at McLaren Hospital Oakland. Family hour 10:30AM Wednesday December 16, 2015 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 N. Perry St. with Memorial service commencing immediately at 11:00AM. Family and Friends will assemble at the funeral home 10:30AM Wednesday. There will be no public viewing. Mr. Hanley D. Johnson was born August 25, 1948 in Blytheville, Arkansas, the son of Hanley and Ruth Nell Johnson. Hanley moved to Pontiac, Michigan at a young age with his parents. He attended Pontiac Central High School where he participated in several extra curricular activities including track. After graduation, in 1967 Hanley served his country in the United States Army, until he was honorable discharges in 1971. He began his work life with Pontiac Motors, then with Grand Trunk Railroad where he worked from 1973 until 1992 after a brief retirement he began working with Lang and Associates in 1993. It was at Lang and Associates, that he met his beloved wife, Sara. They enjoyed working together and traveling together until 2006, when his health challenges began still maintaining an upbeat love for life. Hanley enjoyed grilling, fishing, chatting with his C.B. buddies, keeping company with his family and friends (lifelong friends, Roy Donsa and James “Fish” Williams. He always supported his grandchildren in all their endeavors, he was their biggest fan. Hanley enjoyed music from all genres from Rock n’ Roll, Classical Jazz, some of his favorites were: Parliament, Michael Franks and Tupac. As his health began to fail he would smile and be an encouragement to all he came in contact with his personality would light up a room. He will truly be missed, but he would always say “I have had a good life!” Mr. Johnson leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Sara “Vicky” Johnson; children, Camille Johnson, Judy (Darrell) Smith, Michelle (Daniel) Stevenson, Valerie Harris, Courtney Harris, Sherman King, Hanley D. (Heidi) Johnson, Hanley J. (Kristina) Johnson, Kalen D. Johnson and Sterling Harris; grandchildren, Cassandra Everett, Caren Ann King, Jwane Craig, Shermatte Kini Craig, Ja’Toria Ware, Destiny Johnson, Dessirae, Johnson, Devin Johnson, Derek Johnson, Dannie Stevenson, LaKesha (Derek) Burtle, Onterio Johnson, Devontae Johnson, JLeynah Johnson, Kalynn Johnson, Samiya Johnson, Isiah (Julia) Eller, Kayla (Cordell) James, Deon Delong, Kaleya Armstrong, Coriahn Harris, Joshua Watts, Nadia Adams, Elan Harris, Ja’Caria Harris, Dimitius Adams Jr.; eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara Ann (James) Chance and Angela (General Leonard) Isabelle; aunt, Ruby Osborne; uncle, Bill Jenkins; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, Hanley and Ruth Nell Johnson; daughter, Tamera Harris; brother, Robert (Yaronna) Johnson.
