DOCKERY, Ms. Iola - age 69, passed away, Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Select Speciality - Sinai Grace Hospital-Detroit. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, April 2, 2016 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 N. Perry St., with funeral service commencing at 11:00AM. Pastor Al James Terrell, Officiating. Interment Perry Mount Park Cemetery, 878 N. Perry St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:00 AM Saturday. Mrs. Dockery will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 1:00 PM – 8:00 PM Friday. Ms. Iola Dockery was born December 20, 1946 in Holly Springs, Mississippi to the late Annie Mae and Rayfield Dockery. She attended Dunar High School in Chicago, Illinois and moved to Pontiac, Michigan in 1975. Where she started the first Girl Scout Troop in the Pontiac Housing community. She also worked effortless with the Chicago Police Department. She accepted Christ at an early age and served faithfully under the leadership of Pastor Al James Terrell as a member at St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church. Iola also worked as a Nurse’s Aide and attending school for Bartending. She was on the ground floor of what is now know as the lighthouse. She was best known for her beautiful hair and class of style and her favorite expression “You know how it is?”. She touched lives of many people with her kind and generous heart and her giving nature. She always wanted to see the best in people. Ms. Dockery leaves to cherish her memory: children, Shelia (James) Woods, Freeman Earl Knight and Iileen Fair all of Pontiac, MI; god child, Tony Walker; grandchildren, Darnell Croft, Felechia Knight, James “JT” Woods and Iileen Fair all of Pontiac, MI; two great grandchildren; sister, Ceolia (Rick) Fields; brothers, Tony Dockery, Charles Dockery, Robert Dockery, George Mims and Rufus Mims; and a host of nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Lois Jackson, Lureatha Thomas and Joe Woods. Ms. Dockery was preceded in death by his parents, Annie Mae and Rayfield Dockery; aunt, Maxine Newson and brothers, James Dockery and Andrew Mims. The family would like to express special thanks to the Woods Family, The Smith Family, and the best Pastor, The Reverend Al J. Terrell and too my aunts never would have made it!
