DEWALT, Mr. JAMES Bennie "Jim" - age 61, passed away Sunday May 24, 2020 at his residence. Public Visitation 12:00 NOON – 6:00 PM Friday, June 12, 2020 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 North Perry Street, Mr. Dewalt will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 12 Noon – 6:00 PM Friday. James Bennie Dewalt affectionately called “Jim” was born September 20, 1958 to the late Lela Marie and James Bennie Dewalt. Mr. Dewalt realized at a very young age that the gift God had blessed him with which was a love for automobile repair. He was truly the life of the party because he brought great joy and laughter when entering the room with a big smile on his face. Mr. Dewalt attended Pontiac Northern High School. Mr. Dewalt leaves to cherish his memory: daughter, Nakita Cole; step-children, Evelyn Ellison, Kayada Ellison and Destinie Ellison; grandchildren, Maia, Frederick, Nahdea, Z’Nya, Ramon Ellison, Darnell Boothe, Joshua and Ava Ellison; siblings, Cameron Lee Dewalt, Pamela Reed, Brenda Matthews, James Matthews, Jr., Tressie Gonzales, Ruth Turner-Johnson, and Gladys Turner and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends including special devoted and loving friend, Wanda Ellis; god son, Christian Jackson. Mr. Dewalt was preceded in death by his son, James Ellis; parents, Lela Marie Dewalt and James Bennie Turner; siblings, Denise, LaTrease, Eddie and Alfred Dewalt; and grandparents, T. P. and Lelar Dewalt and sister, Linda Gleen; and friend, Teresa G Mabin-Peoples. At Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, we value the safety and health of our customers, staff and the general public. Therefore, we will adhere to EXECUTIVE ORDER No. 2020-11 issued by our Governor Gretchen Whitmer, regarding assemblages in the wake of the unprecedented health challenge our state and nation is facing. The Executive Order is as follows: Acting under the Michigan Constitution of 1963 and Michigan law, I order the following: 1. Beginning on April 10, 2020 at 9:00 am, and continuing through June 10, 2020 at 5:00 pm, all assemblages of more than 10 people in a single indoor shared space and all events of more than 10 people are prohibited in this state. A single indoor shared space includes but is not limited to a room, hall, cafeteria, auditorium, theater, or gallery. The prohibition on assemblages set forth in this section does not apply to: We do understand that this may pose a challenge to you and your family, but our dedicated staff is here to help guide you towards making the best decisions in memorializing your loved one.
