John E. "Rabbitt" "Ruff" Abrams

ABRAMS, Mr. John "Rabbitt" "Ruff"-age 66, passed away, Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at his residence. Family hour 1:30PM Wednesday, June 12, 2013 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 N. Perry St., with funeral service commencing immediately at 2:00PM. Pastor Wayne Roberts, officiating. Interment Oak Hill Cemetery, 216 University Dr. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 1:30PM Wednesday. Mr. Abrams will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 1:00PM-8:00PM Tuesday. Mr. John Edward Abrams was born July 5, 1946 in Greensboro, Alabama, to Clarice Miller and the late Harty Lee Abrams (the late Leila Abrams). John was a small baby and was given the nickname “Rabbit” by his maternal great grandmother. He accepted the Lord as his personal savior at an early age. John was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday June 4, 2013. John was educated in the Alabama Public Schools. In 1963, he migrated to Pontiac, Michigan at the age of 17 to reconnect with his father and seek employment. John held many jobs. He drove cabs for many years, worked for the City of Pontiac and General Motors, where he took an early retirement to become an entrepreneur. He explored various business opportunities, such as renovating and selling houses, cars and owning several other businesses. John was full of life. Among his many passions were sports, horses, motorcycles, race cars and traveling. He was a member of the “Angels” a motorcycle club as well as the “Vette Club.” He was a very cheerful, loving and understanding father and friend to many. John’s most favorite thing to do was laugh and tell jokes. He had a charitable spirit for helping others. John leaves to cherish his memory: nineteen children, DaTonya Jenkins, Michele Hatcher, Omar Brent, Charray Mosley, John Hickman, James Hickman, Tashina Hickman, Jonathen Abrams, Dominique Alexander, Sharday Abrams, Craig Jefferson, Jaylah Jones of Pontiac, MI, Sonya Goodings of Denver, CO, Cynthia Pettway of Long Island, NY, Jhonece Abrams, Camile (Ronell) Washington of Waterford, MI, Andria Oakes of Lexington, KY, Che’Keita Jones of Auburn Hills, MI and Marcus Thomas of Lansing, MI; mother, Clarice Miller of Jamaica, NY; four brothers, McArthur (Erma) of Boston, MA, Willie (Dott) of Orlando, FL, Larry and Michael (Sylvia) of Jamaica, NY; three sisters, Mary (Jerry) of San Antonio, TX, Florice (Wesc) of Atlanta, GA, Brenda of Jamaica, NY; four aunts, Rose Bogan, Bernece Horton, Ernesteen Williams and Lois Eatton all of Chicago, IL; uncle, Jonnie Mouldin of AL; special friend, Beverly Mosley; and a host of loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. John was preceded in death by his father, Harty Lee Abrams; step mother, Leila Abrams; four brothers, Lee, Lawrence, Saul and Gary Abrams; three sisters, Ann Hall, Gerald and Mary Abrams. The family would like to express special thanks to Effie Robinson, Andrea McClendon, Erica Jones, Sharrmae Abrams and Kim Marks.
