John L. Stewart

STEWART, Mr. John L. - Age - 86, passed away Monday March 2, 2020 at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital. Memorial Service 11:00AM Saturday March 7, 2020, at Prospect Missionary Baptist Church, 351 Prospect St. Pastor Derrick S. McDonald, officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the church 11:00AM. There will be no public viewing. Mr. John Leonard Stewart was born September 14, 1933, in Pontiac, Michigan, the son of the late Alonzo Stewart Sr. and Leeatrice Stewart. John was a lifelong resident of Pontiac, Michigan. He accepted Christ at a early age at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. He was educated in the Pontiac School District. John was employed for many of years with the City of Pontiac. Throughout his Christian walk as an adult he united with the Prospect Missionary Baptist Church, under the Pastoral leadership of Reverend Derrick S. McDonald. John truly loved and enjoyed fishing, bowling, cooking (grilling and baking). He made the best “Pound Cakes.” John was a loving and caring man that will truly be missed by his family, church family and friends. Mr. Stewart leaves to cherish his memory: children, Kimberly (Eddie) Jenkins and John D. (Gale) Stewart, Sr.; grandchildren, Melissa Gulley, Catherine Gulley, Christine Gulley, Reighvyn (Delvin) Carey Rachel Stewart, John (Pearl) Stewart Jr., Stephen Stewart, Michael Elam, Melvin Elam and Mario Robertson; great-grandchildren, Dvaja Robertson, Mario Robertson II, Manuel Robertson, Daniel Robertson, Joshua Robertson Melvin Elam II; great great grandson, Mario Robertson III; sister, Beatrice M. Davenport; brother, Alonzo R. Stewart Jr.; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; a host of other relatives and friends including special great-nephew, Troy Hardiman; special cousin, Lois Taylor; friend, Deacon Quentin McDonald. Mr. Stewart was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Gulley; parents, Alonzo Stewart Sr. and Leeatrice Stewart; sister, Katherine Stewart; brother, James Stewart; niece, Carol Ann Kyles. The family would like to express special thanks the residents and staff at the McDonald House, Pastor Derrick S. McDonald and the entire Prospect Missionary Baptist Church Family.
