Mrs. Lucretia C. "Lou" Price-Elam

PRICE-ELAM, Mrs. Lucretia "Lou" - Age 88, passed away Tuesday October 2, 2012 at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital after a long illness. Family hour 10:30AM Monday October 8, 2012 at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, 46408 Woodward Ave., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11AM. Interment Perry Mount Park Cemetery, 878 N. Perry St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30AM Monday. Mrs. Price-Elam will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 N. Perry St., and may be viewed from 10AM-6PM Sunday. Mrs. Lucretia C. “Lou” Price-Elam was born January 1, 1924, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the daughter of Arthur and Ola Williams. Lucretia soon moved to Michigan as a young adult. This is where she met and married her first husband, McKinley Price and to this union was born two sons, Melvin and Donald Price. Lucretia and McKinley remained married until his passing, and she later married Ernest Elam. Ernest’s marriage to Lucretia made her a very happy woman, and they were the best of friends until her death. While living in Pontiac, Michigan, she became a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and later St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church both in St. Damien of Molakai Parish. Lucretia worked at General Motors for many years and later retired after twenty-five years of service in 1987. She loved to go go go. Traveling, music and enjoying life were her passions. Her favorite song was “How Sweet it is to be Loved by You,” Lucretia would opened her home with sunshine to many people to come and share with her in her living room. Mrs.Price-Elam leaves to cherish her memory: husband, Ernest Elam; son, Melvin (Maria) Price; seven step-children, Ernestine (Grover) Watkins; Diane (Robert) Windsor, Hershal (Mary) Elam, Perry, Duane, Marie and Carol Elam; grandchildren, Magnum Coltrane Price, Mingus Price, Marcus Price of Stockholm, Sweden; great-grandchildren, Malcolm, Nigi and Noel Price; sister, Arthur Lou Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends including special friend, Donna Kennedy; niece, Caddy Elam. Mrs.Price-Elam was preceded in death by her first husband, McKinley Price; son, Donald Price; parents, Arthur and Ola Williams; sisters, Lena McKeithen and Christine Winfield. The family would like to give special thanks to her niece, Inetta Brown and nephew, Charles Hatter.
