GUNN, Mrs. Mae Vivian- Age 91, of Detroit, Michigan departed this life Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at Botsford Hospital Farmington Hills, Michigan. The wife of the late David Gunn; Family hour 12Noon Thursday October 13, 2011 at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 512 Pearsall Ave., with funeral service commencing at 1PM. Interment Perry Mount Park Cemetery, 878 N. Perry St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 12Noon Thursday. Mother Gunn will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 N. Perry St., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Wednesday. Mother Mae Vivian Brooks Gunn was born May 20, 1920 in Huntsville, Alabama, the last of three children, the only girl, born to Reverend Moody and Sister Lucy Brooks. She was the beloved wife of thirty four years to the late David Gunn of Pontiac, Michigan. Mother Gunn accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age at First Baptist Church Huntsville, Alabama. During her tenure at First Baptist Church, she was a faithful, and dedicated Sunday School Teacher. In 1950, Mother Gunn moved to Detroit, Michigan. She united with the New Prospect Baptist Church, and again served as a Sunday School Teacher. After moving to Pontiac, Michigan, with her husband, in 1961, she joined the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, under the pastorate of Reverend L. R. Miner. She continued her loyality to her God and to her church, through committed service in the Mission Ministry, working with children, (Whom she highly adored), the Sunday School Ministry, the Homebound Ministry and the Mother’s Board. She joyfully gave to every member of the church a Birthday Card on their Birthday. In later years, she earned a Clerical Certificate from Ferndale High School, Ferndale, Michigan. She worked as a Domestic Engineer and as an Information Clerk at Mount Carmel Hospital, Detroit, Michigan. Mother Gunn was a woman of great faith, committed, loving, caring, compassionate Christian. She was a mentor, a role model, a devoted mother who stressed The Love of God, discipline and education. She was preceded in death by her only child, a son, Frank. She leaves to cherish in the memories of her life, three nephews, Mark (Mary) Brooks of Dayton, Ohio, George Brooks of Columbus, Ohio, James (Esther) Brooks of St. Petersburg, Florida; niece, Barbara Brooks of Dayton, Ohio; two great-nieces, Marissa of Dayton, Ohio and Claryssa Brooks of St. Petersburg, Florida; two great-nephews, Jaewon Elam of Dayton, Ohio and Warren Poindexter of Atlanta, Gerogia; a loving cousin, Creasie Hunter; god daughter, Reva Wiley; special daughter, Bertha Adams; a close friend, like a sister, Beatrice Blake-Smith; her Church Family; and a host of relatives and friends.
