GIPSON-WINFIELD, Mrs. Mary E. - age 78, passed away Tuesday December 20, 2016 at McLaren Hospital - Oakland. Family hour 10:30AM Tuesday, December 27, 2016 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 N. Perry St., with a Funeral service commencing immediately at 11:00AM. Pastor Willie Cato, Officiating. Interment Oak Hill Cemetery, 216 University Dr. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 AM Tuesday. Mrs. Gipson-Winfield will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 N. Perry St., and may be viewed from 2:00 PM - 8:00PM Monday. Mrs. Gipson-Winfield leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Antoinette Winfield; siblings, Willie (Adicia) Cato, Johnny Cato, Mary B. Cato, Vanessa Cato, Vivian Shelton, Myra (Christopher) Allen and Bernice Burdine; grandchildren, Suave and Shantel Winfield, Jocques and Precious Marion; three great grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Mrs. Mary E. Winfield was born October 18, 1938 in Franklin, Tennessee, the daughter of Sallie Mae Gipson and Robert Brydine. Mary was a resident of Pontiac, Michigan. She worked as a amazing cook at “Brandy’s” and “Ted’s” Restaurants. Mary also worked as a nurse at Neoveck. She served as a nurse as a member of New Mount Moriah International Church under the leadership of Bishop William H. Murphy Jr. She loved and enjoyed going to the casinos, playing cards, having family over for the holidays and cooking for them and traveling to Tennessee to visit family and friends. Mary was an amazing mother and grandmother and she will be truly missed by her family and friends. Mrs. Winfield leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Antoinette Winfield; grandchildren, Suave Winfield, Shantel Winfield, Jacques Marion and Precious Marion; three great grandchildren, De’Jour, Naviair, Sundre’; five sisters, Bernita Cato, Vanessa Cato, Vivian Shelton, Myra (Chris) Allen, Bernice Byrdine; two brothers, Johnny Cato and Pastor Willie Cato; three nieces, Telia Siqual, Disa Kelly, Toi McMillan; eight nephews, William Cato, Alfred Childs, Rickey Sigual, Dameon Jacob, Terrance Shelton, Mario Cato, Ronnie Byrdine and Kendrick Cato; aunt, Willa Hayes; cousins, Sugar Ray Gipson, Lisa Douglas, Mashon Patton and Sheila Watkins; sister-in-law, Adicia Cato; and a host of other relatives and friends, Ann Stewart, Ernie Mae Williams and Jettie McDougal. Mrs. Winfield was preceded in death by her husband, R.D. Winfield II; daughters, Victoria and Nicolette Winfield; son, R.D. “Wheatie” Winfield III; parents, Sallie Mae Gipson and Robert Byrdine; step parents, Willie Shelton and Helen Byrdine; grandmother, Mary Sam Kennedy; two sisters, Sallie “Tuttie” Willis and Ruth “Tina” Cato; two nephews, Rudolph Cato and David Chism Jr.; one niece, Sonceria “Sonni” Cato; brother, Robert Byrdine Jr. The family would like to express special thanks to McLaren Oakland Hospital and Henry Ford Hospital.
