OWENS, Ms. Mary Beth-Ann - age 42, passed away, Saturday, May 3, 2014 at McLaren Hospital Oakland. Family hour 10:30AM Friday, May 16, 2014 at New Mount Moriah International Church, 313 E. Walton Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11:00A.M. Bishop William H. Murphy, Jr. officiating. Interment Perry Mount Park Cemetery, 878 N. Perry St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30AM Friday. Ms. Owens will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 1PM-8PM Thursday. Ms. Mary Beth-Ann Owens was born May 19th, 1971 in Pontiac, Michigan to Brenda L. Owens and the late Bruce Mullen Jr. Mary was the only child of her mother, but was the youngest of five of her father’s children. She attended Pontiac Schools and graduated from Pontiac Central High School “Class of 1990 (The biggest class ever).” Mary accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of eight years old and was a member of the Deliverance Church of God In Christ, under the then Pastoral leadership of Administrative Assistant Supt. W.R. Ginyard Sr. She sang in the Choir for over twenty years, where she sung with the best gospel music artists and composers: the Sounds of Deliverance, Dr. Mattie Moss-Clark, The Winans Family and Mother June L. Ginyard. Mary later moved her membership to the New Mount Moriah International Church where her pastor is Bishop William H. Murphy Jr. and began serving with the “Helping Hands Ministry.” Our “Momi,” loved music, dancing, being clean, smelling good and looking nice. She was an avid reader and a beginning writer, May 9th she would’ve returned to OCC where her studies were for Mental Health Social Work. She had already earned forty-six credits and was eighteen credits away from an Associate’s Degree. She loved Black and Orange (“Go Chiefs Class of ’90)! Mary enjoyed cooking for her friends and family and everybody loved her food. Last but not least she loved her mama and her “two big babies” her children, Bethany and Joshua. Our Momi leaves to cherish her sweet memory her two big babies, Bethany A. Owens and Joshua T. Owens; mother, Brenda L. Owens; special son, Dequan Travis; special granddaughter, Honesty Travis; brother, Eric B. (Julie) Mullen; three sisters, Denise M. (Ernest) Yarbro, Voronica R. Jackson and Tara D. Mullen; two uncles, Darrell “Duck” (Jacqueline) Owens and Timothy Owens; aunt, Angela (Marvin) Deloney-Owens; special cousins, LaShonda Owens, DaNita White-Owens and Adrian Bass; special aunt, Debra Woods; godmother, LaVern Harper; god brother, Jamal (Jane) Harper, god sister, Kimberly Harper; god son, Jehnotai Stimage; and a host of other relatives and friends including Darry A. Travis. Our Momi was preceded in death by her father, Bruce Mullen Jr.; grandmother, Mable L. Owens; aunt, Tracey Owens Beasley; great aunt and soror, Doris A. Woods; cousins, Raymond Woods Jr., LaShawn Carter and William Cooper IV; godfather, Jimmie L. Harper. The family would like to express very special and heartfelt thanks to Bishop and 1st Lady William H. Murphy Jr. and the entire New Mount Moriah International Church Family.
