Percy Lee Cottingham Sr.

COTTINGHAM, Mr. Percy - age 76, passed away Friday November 6, 2015 at McLaren Oakland Hospital. Family Hour will be 1:30PM Saturday November 14, 2015 from the Chapel at Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home 268 N. Perry St. with funeral service commencing immediately at 2:00PM. Pastor Glenn A. Chappell, Officiating. Family and Friends will assemble at the funeral home at 1:30PM Saturday. Mr. Cottingham will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 4-8PM Friday. Mr. Percy L. Cottingham, Sr. was born to the union of the late Pete and Ida Mae Cottingham in Centreville, Alabama on February 21, 1939. He was the sixth of ten brothers and sisters. Percy retired from General Motors in 1994 after thirty years of dedicated service. He later worked for the City of Pontiac Schools as a crossing guard. He was a member of Zion Refuge Church in Pontiac, MI. He really enjoyed his retirement by traveling, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He always enjoyed his special times with his wife, attending the movies, casinos, playing his lotteries, watching Steve Harvey and Family Feud, working on cars and fixing all the repairs on his grand children things just to see them happy. He was extremely devoted to his entire family sparing them nothing including monies, time and most importantly wisdom. He believed in the joining of family group prayer. No matter when, he always made himself available whenever anyone called on him. He was a special man that you could always count on and was loved by many. His words were always golden. No matter how he felt, he always wore a smile and never ever complained. He leaves to cherish his memories his beloved wife, Betty Cottingham of over fifty years. His four children, Brenda Dilworth, Dianne (James) Smothers, Percy (Tarya) Cottingham, Jr., and Teresa Cottingham; grandchildren, Charles Alan & Carezza Dilworth, James “Little” & DuJuan Smothers, Shante Williams and Shianne Mabin; great grandchildren, Yakini Ellen, Samiyah Williams and NeVaeh Ott, all of Pontiac, MI; brother, O.C. Cottingham of Birmingham, AL; special sister-in-laws, Carol Chism of Detroit, MI, Linda Crayton of Cleveland, OH, Marjorie Chism of Minnesota, Valerie Cottingham and Carolyn Mickles of MI; brother-in-law, James (Maple) Chism of Centreville, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Mr. Cottingham was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Ida Mae Cottingham; two sisters, Jessie Mae Lawhorn and Annie Lou Tarver; six brothers, Herbert, Pete, Henry, Eugene, James and William Cottingham; one grandson, David Mabin; and a special brother-in-law, Percy Chism.
