GREEN, Mr. Robert Lee "Bob" age 73, passed away, Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Oakland. Family hour 9:30AM Saturday, May 14, 2016 at Monument of Faith Missionary Baptist Church, 378 Auburn Ave., with funeral service commencing immediately at 10:00 AM. Pastor James H. Keys, Sr., officiating. Interment Oak Hill Cemetery, 216 University Drive. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 9:30 AM Saturday. Mr. Green will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 N. Perry St., and may be viewed from 3:00 PM-8:00PM Friday. Mr. Robert Lee Green lovingly named “Poppy” was born on August 9, 1941 in Wyatt, Missouri. He departed this life on May 3, 2016. He was the son of the late Katherine and Gus Green. At a young age, he received Christ. He graduated from Douglas High School in Mounds, Illinois. Poppy worked at Pontiac Motors a division of General Motors for thirty-seven years. Poppy’s hobbies included fishing, chess, traveling, playing the guitar, writing and singing songs, videography and taking pictures for family and friends. In 1962, he moved to Pontiac, Michigan. In 1966 he met the love of his life Zenobia Green. Robert and Zenobia Green were married for forty-three years. Two children were born from this union, Keyon Green and Laketa (Charles) Holmes. Six children completed the union, Eric Green, Julia Madeline Ellison, Renee Spears, Keith (Brooke) Spears, Kim Spears and Johnny “Tinkey” (Patricia) Spears. Poppy was the backbone of the family. He was a phenomenal husband, father; grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was known for having loving and vigorous debates and would give his all to be there for any and everyone who needed him. Poppy loved to teach his children and grandchildren about their family history and to be proud of where they came from Mr. Green leaves to cherish his memory: wife of forty-three years, Zenobia Green; children, Keyon Green, Laketa (Charles) Holmes, Eric Green, Julia Madeline Ellison, Renee Spears, Keith (Brooke) Spears, Kim Spears and Johnny “Tinkey” (Patricia) Spears; twelve grandchildren, Owen Singleton, Julius Perry, Julia Perry, Erica Green, Akira Green, Alex Green, Austin Green, Kobey Green, Mason Holmes, Juleah January, Kaylee Green, Keith Spears Jr.; great grandson, Julius Perry Jr. and Denver Sibert due the summer of 2016; siblings, Thomas (Jimmie Ann) Green, Shirley (Vern) Singleton, Gwendolyn “Kay” (Willie) Green and Debra Roston Barnes; and a host of other relatives and friends including a special friend, Clarence Holmes; Mr. Green was preceded in death by his parents, Gus and Katherine Green; sisters, Rosie Green, Gervie Warren; two brothers, Percy (Historia) O’Ham and Tony Roston.
