Roy Guthery III

GUTHERY, Mr. Roy III - age 55, passed away Friday February 5, 2016 at McLaren Hospital Oakland. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Messiah Missionary Baptist Church, 15 Mark Avenue, with funeral service commencing immediately at 11:00 AM. Pastor Billy D. Allen, Eulogist Pastor Sylvester Thompson, Host Pastor. Family and friends will assemble at the church 10:00AM Saturday. Mr. Guthery III will lie instate in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 N. Perry St., and may be viewed from 2:00 PM - 8:00 PM Friday. Mr. Roy Guthery III was born July 22, 1960 in Pontiac, Michigan to Roy Guthery, Jr. and Gladys Guthery. Roy was a resident of the City of Pontiac and attended Pontiac schools, graduating from Pontiac Northern High School in 1978. He had a passion for home improvements including painting and refurbishing floors. He was employed with Pontiac Schools for many years, and was recently employed with Universal Parking of America at St. Joseph Mercy-Oakland, where he was loved and admired until his passing. He loved the Lord and accepted Christ at an early age. Roy was a devoted family man who loved spending time with his family. He loved life, having fun and had many hobbies and interests which included fishing, writing stories, playing the piano, playing basketball, video games, shooting pool, and many other things. Roy was also a teacher. He taught many how to drive, fish, shoot pool and many other things. Roy loved music especially smooth jazz. He will most be remembered for his calm demeanor, bright smile, kindness, generosity, and a good heart. Roy leaves to cherish his memory, a loving wife, Lakeishia Guthery; five children, Imahn (Danielle) Crowder of Joliet Illinois, Quianna Guthery, Yusuf Rashid, Josuf Rashid, and Roy Guthery IV, all of Pontiac, MI; eight beloved grandchildren, Kavion Powell of Pontiac, MI, Sheldon, Sydney, Christian, Nia, Lauren, London, and Gianna Crowder, all of Joliet, Illinois; loving mother, Gladys Guthery; six sisters, Kaye Watkins, Minnie Guthery, Patricia Guthery, Anna Cooksey, Gwendolyn (Louis) Smith, all of Pontiac, MI, and Helen Guthery of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one brother Richard (Beverly) Guthery of Tacoma, WA; one aunt, Miriam Milas of Pontiac, MI; uncles, Waymond (Gwen) Guthery of Southfield, MI, John (Patricia) Guthery of Everett, WA; mother-in-law, Josephine Hairston of Pontiac, MI; fathers-in-law, George Hairston, Jr. of Pontiac, MI and Ruffas King of Detroit, MI; sister-in-law, Tanesha Clark of Jacksonville, FL; brother-in-law George Hairston, III of Pontiac, MI; special friend, Willie Powell; and a host of family and friends. Roy was preceded in death by his father, Roy Guthery, Jr.
