HUDSON, Mr. Samuel Taylor Sr - "Po Hudson" "Grandad" Age 83, passed away Monday, February 9, 2009 at his residence. Family hour 1:00p.m. Monday, February 16, 2009 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 N. Perry St., with funeral service commencing at 2p.m. Pastor Kevin Smith, officiating. Interment Perry Mount Park Cemetery, 878 N. Perry St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 1p.m. Moday. Mr. Hudson, Sr will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 12PM-6PM Sunday. Samuel Taylor Hudson Sr., was born June 19, 1925 in Stockville, Mississippi to the late Emmaline Hudson-Rush and L A Hudson. In his adolescent years, the family relocated to Michigan and a character, much greater than fiction developed. Assuming the role of the man of the house. Sam was lovingly devoted to his family; he set standards for which all men should strive to follow. A highly decorated veteran, Sam served in the United States Army. He courageously fought in World War I and the Korean War. As a result of his determination and bravery, he earned the Japanese medal, two bronze stars, and achieved the title of rifle specialist.Upon returning home, he married the regal and beautiful Lenoris Roberts, and to this union three children, Katherine Helen, Renee and Samuel Taylor Hudson, Jr. were born. In later years, he remarried and enjoyed a wonderful marriage to a very loving and devoted wife, Betty Morton until she went home to glory. Over the years, Sam, has created an indelible impression on the loves of many. "Grandad" and "Uncle Sam" as he was affectionately called by his beloved "crumb snatchers" was idolized and adored. "Po Hudson" as he was christened, displayed an air of camaraderie and confidence for all others to admire…or fear. He enjoyed a long and fulfilling career at Thompson McCully as an asphalt raker. Grandad showed tremendous pride in his work and could tell you how to get anywhere you wanted to go in the State of Michigan. We’ve all heard countless stories on how he "laid down all these streets." We can only smile while recalling fond memories of Grandad spending time with us all from the Mill Dam, Kensington Park or wherever we gathered. We all can relate to our names being pronounced, and of course all his girls answered to a loud, booming "Hey Suga!" The rest of "you people" were known as "Nappy head Scamps!" Whether being adored or insulted by Po Hudson, we always felt the humor, protection and love…unparalleled. Mr. Hudson, Sr. leaves to cherish his legacy: loving daughter, Renee Hudson Williamson; two sons, Samuel Taylor Hudson, Jr. and Armon Nichols; one step-daughter, Terry D. Terell; fifteen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; four sisters, Rosemary (Bobby) Bey, Carolyn (Titus) Robinson-El, Cynthia Rush and Eleanor Hudson; three brothers, Jerry (Lillian) Rush, Eugene Rush and Mike Banks; one aunt, Mattie Taylor; one sister-in-law, Virginia Rush; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends including special friend; Ms. Torey Clark, and "Tennessee." Mr. Hudson, Sr. was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Hudson; children, Katherine and Samuel Joseph Hudson; parents, Emmaline Hudson-Rush and L.A. Hudson; granddaughter, Ardra "Poopsie" Gilyard; great granddaughter; Payton Estelle Hudson; two brothers, Harold Rush and Robert Rush.
