MONCRIEF, Mr. Shelly, Jr. - Age 90, passed Friday, June 29, 2007 at his residence.three children, Shelly Jr., Eddie "Mae" Johnson and Beverly Moncrief. Family hour 10:30AM at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 174 Branch St., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11AM. Pastor Keyon Payton, officiating. Interment Oak Hill Cemetery, 210 University Drive. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30AM Thursday. Mr. Moncrief will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 N. Perry St., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Wednesday. Mr. Shelly Moncrief Jr., was born April 27, 1917 in Montgomery,Alabama to Shelly and Elvira (Smith) Moncrief. Shelly was one of six children born to this union. He was educated in Alabama Public Schools. Shelly later joined the military and fought in World War II. After serving in the military, he later met and married the love of his life the late Cessie Ree Cooper in the South and then relocated to Pontiac, Michigan. To this union three children were born, Shelly III, Eddie Mae and Beverly Ann. In addition to this union Shelly embraced James Haynes and Willie Penn. Once coming to Pontiac, Shelly found employment at Pontiac Motors, where he worked for 30 years until his retirement. He was a sports enthusiast and a avid bowler on the "Roaring 20?s Bowling League." He treasured traveling, playing cards, meeting new people and enjoying life to the max. Shelly later joined New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a faithful and devoted member, and sang in the Senior Choir and Male Chorus. Mr. Moncrief leaves to cherish his memory: daughters, Eddie Mae Johnson and Beverly Moncrief; son, Shelly Moncrief, III; grandchildren, Antwaun (Delena) Johnson, Deon (Demetria) Moncrief, Marsellis Moncrief, Dionte? (Anna) Moncrief, Willie Thomas, Robert Jackson, De Andre? Moncrief and Taevin Johnson; granddaughters, Laura Thomas and Cassandra "Sandy" (Miquel) Rexner; twelve great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Mr. Moncrief was preceded in death by his parents, Shelly (Elvira) Moncrief; three sisters, Hattie Cooper, Rose Henderson and Katie Ringstaff; two brothers, twin brother, Eddie and Anderson Moncrief. The family would like to express special thanks to New Bethel Church Family, Friends of Woodland Heights Apartment Complex, and the late Hattie Cooper.
