BURKETT, Mr. Thomas "Gene"- Age 42, passed Saturday, April 5, 2008 at Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital.Family hour 10:00a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2008 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 N. Perry St., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11a.m. Pastor Savannah Spears, officiating. Interment Perry Mount Park Cemetery, 878 N. Perry St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:00a.m. Saturday. Mr. Burkett will lie in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 N. Perry St., and may be viewed from 2 to 7p.m. Friday. Mr. Thomas Eugene Burkett was born February 10, 1966 to the late Betty Jean and Thomas James Burkett at Pontiac General Hospital. He departed this life on April 5, 2008. He accepted Christ at an early age, and was currently under the leadership of Pastor Savannah Spears. He received his education within the Pontiac School System. He was employed by Unique Fabricating for eighteen years as a hi-lo driver. He was known as ?Gene? by family and friends. He loved spending time with family and friends having birthday and holiday barbecues or it didn?t have to be a birthday or holiday gathering, it could be any day. He would call everyone and say, ?Yall come over, lets barbecue, dance, play cards and listen to me deejay my music.? We all know how he loved his music and just entertaining everyone. He touched many lives while he was here and he will always reside in the hearts and minds of everyone who knew of him. Today he rests from his labor and his works do follow. He has fought a good fight, he has finished his course and he has kept the faith. Mr. Thomas Eugene Burkett leaves to cherish his memory: loving, caring wife, Shalanni; one beautiful daughter, Cassandra; two precious sons, Tayshawn and Justin (due to join us May 2008); four sisters, Deborah (the late Al), Janice (Eric), Sybrina and Syrenea (Jeff); one very special sister-in-law, Jacquelyn McNary; a very special father-in-law, Maurice McNary; five nieces, seven nephews; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Lawanda Long, Kenny Luckett, Mr. and Mrs. H. Barry, Debbie Foster and Albertine Mack. Mr. Burkett was preceded in death by his parents, Betty Jean and Thomas James Burkett.
