Wanda Marietta "Marion" Allen

ALLEN, Mrs. Wanda Marietta "Marion" - Age 84, passed away Saturday May 21, 2016 at her residence. Family Hour 10:00AM Friday May 27, 2016 at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 318 Auburn Ave., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11:00AM. Pastor Timothy Lawrence, Officiating. Interment Perry Mount Park Cemetery, 878 North Perry St., Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10AM Friday. Mrs. Allen will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 N. Perry St., and may be viewed from 2:00PM – 8:00 PM Thursday. Wanda “Marion” Marietta Palmer Allen was born December 5, 1931 in Ypsilanti, Michigan. She is the daughter of the late Margaret Campbell Palmer McAllister and James Palmer. Wanda Allen is a graduate of Pontiac Central High. As a strong advocate of education, she took college courses, while raising her 9 children. She channeled her long-term interest in architecture and design into renovating and remodeling her family homes. She especially enjoyed closely supervising, guiding and skill-training her “helpers” during each project. Wanda Palmer Allen was the first of her Palmer line to be born in the United States. She has resided in Michigan, California, and Alabama. As the eldest of a very large family, she used her considerable wisdom and patience to set a loving example for all, cherishing each and every family member, as well as numerous friends. There was always enough of her love, strength and advice to go around. Wanda will be missed dearly by her loving and devoted family members. Her three remaining sons are: Ronald (Erma) Allen of Memphis, TN, Terence Allen of Pontiac, MI and Calvin “Jake” (Lashann) Allen of Baton Rouge, LA; Her five daughters are: Donna (Emmett) Capito of Pontiac, MI, Anita Macias (Charles) Kandler of Romulus, MI, Calvina (Michael) Dupre of Gaithersburg, MD, Marvita “Sam” (Danny) Cole of Auburn Hills, MI and Brenda Stewart of Pontiac, MI. Wanda’s remaining siblings are her brother, Frank (Marcia) Palmer of Ypsilanti, MI; and sisters, Belinda (Frank) Johnson, of Ann Arbor, MI, Jeanette Palmer of Ypsilanti, MI and Doris Wilkes of Pontiac, MI; her beloved brother-in-law, Harold Allen of Pontiac, MI; one hundred and sixty-five grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and great-great-great grandchildren. Wanda’s extended family also includes James Goodson, Carlton (Robin) Greene, Ricky (Louise) Page, and Jeffrey (Tina) Hawkins. She is also survived by a host of other loving relatives, including Earnestine Braxton and Tommie Blanton of Alabama. Among her special friends are: Johnny Hawkins, Jaisen “Andy” Hawkins, Michael Bell, Robert Earl Henderson, and Cleotha Robinson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Allen, Jr.; son Anthony Harold Allen; sisters: Betty Hereford, Shirley Haywood, Barbara Palmer, Charlotte Bates and Viola Williams; brothers: Marvin Palmer, Carl “Sonny” Palmer, James Palmer, George Palmer Bayliss, Thomas Palmer, Michael Palmer and Jack Palmer; and stepmother Dorothy Palmer.
