Frances Diane Jones was affectionately known as “Pookie”. She was born May 27, 1960 to William and Willean Jones in Picayune, Mississippi. On May 19th she departed her life and entered in eternal rest. Frances confessed Christ at an early age at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Picayune. The Jones family relocated to Pontiac, Michigan, when Frances was 7 years old. Frances was educated in the Pontiac School District. She was self-employed for many years. Frances was generously expressive with words and subtle approaches were not her way. As the eldest, she took on the matriarch role to her siblings, nieces and nephews. Frances was very protective of her family and knew she was the boss. Frances was reliable and committed to things nobody else had the energy or knowledge to do. She was a long-term caregiver to our father, along with our mother. Frances helped prolong his life by challenging herself and becoming self-taught on medical procedures and terminology. The doctors were impressed and offered her jobs, but she refused them in order to take care of our father. Frances’s hobbies were gardening, fishing, building things and working on cars and would proudly say, “My daddy taught me how to work on cars, didn’t yours!” Frances was an avid reader with infinite wisdom on a variety of topics and life experiences. Frances was passionate about her beliefs and she expressed them often. Entertaining others was her specialty. Frances enjoyed baking, cooking and listening to her music. The aroma of her BBQ and fish frying welcomed everyone to eat, sit, talk and have debates out in the yard. Most notably, Frances spent many of her days giving to others. Her community service projects included: delivering prepared food items to those in need, making sure people voted and doing carpentry work at Galilean Baptist Church, with her special friend, Jim Burch, Sr. and many “do-it-yourself” projects. Although giving can be exhausting, Frances sacrificially poured into others. Frances leaves behind her beloved mother, Willean Jones; five siblings and three brothers-in-law, Wanda (Jimmy) Crump, Shelia (Travis) Moore, Debra (Ismael) Gonzales, William Jones and Belinda (Eric) Ivory; three nieces Aiesha, Amber and Caley; two nephews, Travon and Caleb; two great-nieces, Khalani and Kharis; and a special great-nephew, Ashton. She leaves behind her cherished friends, Jim Burch, Sr., Veron and JoAnne Antwine and Jessie Jackson; and a special cousin, Minnie Heidelburg. Frances was preceded in death by her father William Jones; nephew Travis D. Moore II; paternal grandparents, Acie and Eunice Jones; and maternal grandparents, Helen Jefferson and Ambus Hawthorn.
