ARMSTRONG-NEWCOMB, Mrs. Mary - Age 86, passed away Monday March 23, 2015 at her residence. Visitation Services will take place Tuesday March 31, 2015 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 N. Perry St., from 1-8PM Tuesday. Family hour 11:00AM Saturday April 4, 2015 at St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church, 704 Franklin St., Charleston, MO, with funeral service commencing at 12Noon. Pastor Floyd Wade, officiating. Interment Mound City Veterans Cemetery, Old US Highway 51, Mound City, IL, 62963. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11:00AM Saturday. Mary Armstrong-Newcomb on May 19, 1928, God in his wise providence, opened the chambers of heaven and blessed Alfred Armstrong and Martha Armstrong-Jefferson with a daughter whom was given the name Mary Armstrong, also known as “Bright Eye.” She was a resident of Detroit, Michigan. She was a member of Prospect Missionary Baptist Church of Pontiac, Michigan under the leadership of Pastor Derrick S. McDonald. She was blessed with a wonderful gift, singing and cooking and she was good in both of them. Her siblings were Ruffus Armstrong, Beatrice Hodges, Pecolar Love, Josephine Armstrong Miner and Williams Armstrong all have preceded her in death. Born in Charleston Missouri where she spent her formative years under the guidance of her parents. She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Charleston, Missouri, and later St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the Reverend Floyd Wade. Mary was the youngest of six children. She graduated from Lincoln High School, later married the “Love of her Life,” Hope Newcomb Jr., to this union twelve children were born: Hope III, Debra and Sherry Newcomb, Betty Jean Allen, Molly Jane Manns, Willie Mae Wynns, which all preceded her in death. Mary left to mourn her two sons, Henry Charles (Barbara) Coleman, Joseph Lee (Brenda) Newcomb; three daughters, Martha Ann (Tommie Lee) Tipler, Mary Louis (Leroy Jr.) Edmonds, Trolly Faye (George) Ballentine and Linda Lue (Durocher) Miller; three special sons-in-law, James Wynns, Steve Manns and James “Blood” Allen; her adopted son and daughter, Glasper “Mack” (Stella) McCaskill, Stella preceded her in death; thirty five grandchildren; sixty-nine great grandchildren; thirty eight great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members and friends. Her best friend Willie Mae Hayes, Mrs. Mary McDonald, Mrs. Etta Stockman and her k-nine friend, “Rosie.”
