Vinnie "Poodie" Wilkerson Boykins

April 6, 1930 - April 30, 2022

WILKERSON BOYKINS, Mrs. Vinnie "Poodie" -age 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at Select Specialty Hospital (St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital). She was born April 6, 1930 in Jonesville, Louisiana to her loving parents Abram and Ellen Swift Wilkerson. She was the youngest of seven siblings who all preceded her in death. Vinnie attended Catahoula Parish Training Center, Jonesville, Louisiana. In 1948, Vinnie met and married Emrick Boykins, Sr. (deceased). This union was blessed with six children. God saw fit to call home her daughter Beverly during her infant years. Vinnie accepted Christ at a early age at Moss Grove Baptist Church, Jonesville, Louisiana. After moving to Michigan, she became a committed member of Welcome Missionary Baptist Church, Pontiac, Michigan. Vinnie loved to love people. She opened her heart and home to many, family and friends. She was an incredible cook, and enjoyed sharing her love for food with her children, family members and extended family. She simply loved cooking for the ones she loved. Vinnie served as the head of her church's Kitchen Ministry for many years. Vinnie worked as a healthcare professional in several hospitals before changing her career to private domestic service. She was always driven by her passion to help others and was a very kindhearted person. Vinnie is survived by her children, Wilson (Mary) Boykins, Emrick (Hellica) Boykins, Jr., Juanita Boykins-Moody, Sandra Faye (Elick) Shorter and Jackie Earl (Mary) Boykins; as well as her grandchildren and great grandchildren and many, many other loving and devoted family members. Family hour 10:30AM Saturday, May 7, 2022 at Welcome Missionary Baptist Church, 143 Oneida Street, with homegoing service commencing immediately at 11:00AM. Pastor Douglas P. Jones, officiating. Interment Perry Mount Park Cemetery, 878 North Perry Street. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30AM Saturday. Mrs. Boykins will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 North Perry Street, and may be viewed from 4:00-6:00PM Friday.
