McGHEE, Mrs. Bertha Mae - age 85, passed away, Sunday, September 15, 2019 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Oakland. Family hour 10:00 AM Monday, September 23, 2019 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 N. Perry Street, with Memorial Service commencing immediately at 11:00 am. Pastor James H. Keys, Sr., Officiating. Family and Friends will assemble at the funeral home 10:00 AM Monday. There will be No Public Viewing. Mrs. Bertha Mae McGhee was born October 26, 1933 in Liberty, Mississippi, the daughter of George Wather and Maude M. Lea. Bertha was their seventh child out of thirteen brothers and sisters. Bertha moved to Michigan with her late husband Joseph (Joe) McGhee, where she had three children during her life. The first born was Cynthia D. McGhee/Addo’Kufuor of Arlington Texas, Gregory C. McGhee and Stanley D. McGhee of Pontiac, Michigan. Bertha worked and retired from Pontiac Motors Division after being hurt while working for the General Motors Corporation. During retirement, Bertha found relaxation by attending church and designing or creating new decorations for her home. She learned to stay busy and loved remodeling her surroundings. Bertha attended the Auburn Hills Church of Christ, where she was a member and joined the Young Retirees (Senior Group) and Grandparents for Children. In the past, she also assisted in starting the Northside Church of Christ with Minister Dennis Gamble, where they both departed from Eastside Church of Christ. Mrs. Bertha McGhee leaves to cherish her memory: children, Cynthia D. McGhee/Addo‘Kufuor of Arlington Texas, Gregory C. McGhee and Stanley D. McGhee of Pontiac, Michigan; grandchildren, Gregory C. Nance of Detroit, Michigan and Säde T. McGhee of Fort Worth, Texas; great-grandchildren, Kayden and Myia Barna; sister, Vera Sharp of New Orleans, Louisiana; daughter-in-law, Marsha McGhee; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends that will miss her spirit, Mrs. Bertha McGhee was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph McGhee; parents, George Wather and Maude M. Lea.; grandchild, Solomon H. Moore, Jr.; siblings, Maggie, Mary, Martha, Mable, Velma, Stella Mae, Lela, Vera, Walter, Hilton Sr, Isaiah and Roosevelt.
