BEST, Ms. Cheryl Sue "Susie" - age 61, passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2024 in Pontiac, Michigan. Family hour 10:30AM Monday, April 15, 2024 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 North Perry Street, with funeral commencing immediately at 11:00AM. Friends and family will assemble 10:30AM Monday at the funeral home. Ms. Best will lie instate in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 10:00AM - 4:00PM Sunday. Cheryl Sue “Susie” Best, was born June 24, 1962 in Gary, Indiana the daughter of Carolyn (Noel) Zimmerman and Dennis Paul Zimmerman Jr. Susie grew up in Altoona, Pennsylvania where she graduated from Altoona Area High School and attended Altoona Business School. As a young woman, Susie married a local man and together moved to Michigan to work and start a family. In 1989, she became the proud mother of her beloved only child, Darrell “Bud” Dixon III. Although her marriage ended, the couple remained friends while raising their son. Susie was employed as a caretaker for an elderly GMC executive and his wife. The couple was like a second family to Susie and she remained in their employ until the end of their lives. Susie was employed part-time at the Amazon warehouse where she most enjoyed those with whom she worked. In 2004, Susie married Glenn Best with whom she shared her life until her passing. Susie enjoyed reading novels, in particular books by Stephen King. You could usually find her with a puzzle book in her hand, enjoying her inner circle of friends and taking care of her rescue dog, Chance. Susie leaves to cherish her memory: spouse, Glenn Best of Pontiac, Michigan; mother, Caroline Baker of Tyner, North Carolina; Susie is the older of an identical twin sister Candy Jo (Josie) Carter. Although the gap in their ages was only five minutes, those minutes remained important to Susie in the decision making process while they were young. Josie resides in Beeville, Texas. An older sister, Brenda Clark resides in Portsmouth, Virginia with her husband, Michael. Susie also has a step- sister Ellen Vaughn,residing in Tucson, Arizona. In addition, Susie has one older brother Dennis Paul (Buddy) Zimmerman III with whom her son “young Bud” shares a nickname, and who resides in Altoona, Pennsylvania with his wife, Kim. Susie was preceded in death by her beloved son, Darrell “Bud” Dixon III as well as her father, Dennis Paul Zimmerman Jr. and a step brother, Kenneth Russell Booth. The family would like to express special thanks to Susie’s “lady friends” including Miss Judy and Jessica who both showed Susie so much love and kindness as she grieved the death of her son and also during her prolonged battle with cancer, her neighbor, Lisa for the care packages and visits and her cousin Margo for traveling the distance to spend time with Susie and her family in Susie’s final days. The hospice nurses, the chaplain who visited Susie and all of the folks who prayed for Susie during the battle. There may be others who need to be thanked, please know that we appreciate all heartfelt words and deeds directed to our much loved and cherished Susie.
