Claudia "Black Mae" Young

YOUNG, Mrs. Claudia Mae - Age 78, passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital. Family hour 12:30PM Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 599 Michigan St., with funeral service commencing immediately at 1PM. Pastor Ernest Johnson, officiating. Dr. William H. Dulaney, Host Pastor. Interment Oak Hill Cemetery, 216 University Drive. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 12:30PM Tuesday. Mrs. Young will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 N. Perry St., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Monday. Claudia Mae "Black Mae" Young was born August 18, 1930 in Lisbon Louisiana, the daughter of Pank and Bessie Reed. Mae attended Homer School for the Colored Children in Louisiana. She accepted Christ at an early age. Mae met and married Louis Clyde Young, and to this union three children were born, the family later moved to Michigan in 1960. Mae enjoyed people and being around friends. She loved cooking for her loved ones, taking care of her grandchildren and playing cards, it was her favorite hobby. Upon her death, Mae reinstated her faith at New Era Baptist Church, under the pastorage of Rev. Ernest Johnson. Claude Mae Young leaves to cherish her memory: children, Linda (Jimmy) Smith, Lavell Young, Grace L. Davis, Ollie Mae Black, Evon Perdue, Carolyn Sanders all of MI, Loretta Davis, Gloria J. Sloan, Priscilla Sims, Teresa Gee, Patricia Young of TX; special companion, Fred McKnight; six grandchildren, LaTonya Smith, Lavell A. Burns, La Kissa Black, Phobe Brown, Steven Brown, Andrea Young; thirteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Ella Mae "Shine" Williams;a host of nieces including a special niece, Shirley Davis; a host of nephews including one special nephew, Roland Fountain; a host of cousins and other relatives and friends including special friends, Fred McKnight Carolyn Gordon, Eugene Williams, Faye Osborne, Grady Gross; special caretaker, Jozette Hawkins. Mrs. Young was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Clyde Young, daughter, Bessie Mae Young; parents, Pank (Bessie) Reed; three sisters, Dorothy Mae Brim, Beatrice Smith, Lorenna Given; six brothers, Ollie Reed, Arthur Reed, Willie Reed, Leonard Reed, Garland Smith, Seavon Smith; niece, Betty Ann Hardy; special friend, John "Jake" Glenn.
