WOOD, Mr. Edward Larry "Papa" - age 71, passed away, Saturday, November 5, 2016 at his residence. Family hour 12:30PM Friday, November 11, 2016 at Door of Faith Christian Church, 511 South Sanford Street., with funeral service commencing immediately at 1:00PM. Pastor Earl O. Crump, Officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 North Belford Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 12:30 PM Friday. Mr. Wood will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 N. Perry St., and may be viewed from 4:00 PM - 8:00PM Thursday. Mr. Edward Larry Wood “PaPa” was born January 19, 1945 in Port Huron, Michigan to the late Albert and Dorothy Wood. Edward passed away peacefully on November 5, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Edward attended Port Huron Area Schools, graduating from Port Huron High School. He was later drafted to the military and served in Vietnam in the Signal Corp. Prior to being drafted, he worked at Pontiac Motors. After he completed his tour of duty in Vietnam, he returned to General Motors until his retirement in September, 1992. In his pastime Edward enjoyed fishing, playing cards, playing pool, he took pride in working in his yard, gardening and talking old-school with friends. His devotion to his parents went beyond limits. He was able to take the love and learning from his parents and pass it on to others. He was a man who believed in doing the right things for his family and friends. His children were his pride and joy. They knew him better than most. The life lessons he taught them helped mold them into positive parents and role models. His grandchildren are a story within themselves. Even though they are all different in their own way, they were all nicknamed by their Papa. They won’t ever forget him, that is a promise. Edward was diligent, strong-minded, honest, respectful to elders, creative and loyal to his family and friends. During his illness, he never complained. God wanted this good man to come home. In the words of his loving wife Linda: “Rest now Larry, you will always be heavy in our hearts.” To continue his life and legacy is his wife, Linda; and children, LaShawyn Wood (Brian Reed), Larry (Kendra) Wood, Tamaka Wood (Adriean Turner) and Jhuamar (Leslie) Wood. His grandchildren were the light of his life. grandchildren, Darrian Wood, Sean, Wood, Aaliyah Turner, Nevaeh Wood, Alex Wood, Mariah Wood, Maddex Wood, Lilliana Wood, Evan Wood and Jhace Turner. Edward leaves to mourn his passing his siblings, Charolette Tillery, Barbara McMillan, Roger (Pauline) Wood; brother-in-law, Richard Pack; and a host of other relatives and friends. Edward was preceded in death by his son, Edward Wood Jr.; sisters, Audrey Pack, Dorothy Santos; brother, Albert Wood.
