Ella Chunn

CHUNN, Mrs. Ella Mae - Age 78, passed away Monday, August 23, 2010 at her residence. Family hour 12:30PM Saturday August 28, 2010 at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 174 Branch St., with funeral service commencing immediately at 1PM. Pastor Keyon S. Payton, officiating. Interment Oak Hill Cemetery, 216 University Drive. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 12:30PM Saturday. Mrs. Chunn will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 N. Perry St., and may be viewed from 1-7PM Friday. Mrs. Ella Mae Chunn was born June 7, 1932 to Herman and Johnella Evans in Zachary, Louisiana. She was the second oldest of twelve children born to that union. Ella confessed Christ at an early age. In 1950 she moved to Michigan and was married to Henry Gross Sr. To that union four children were born. Later in her life she remarried Perry Chunn and to this union three more children were born. Ella remarried for the third time to Howard Teer. She joined New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in the early fifties under the leadership of Reverend Amos G. Johnson. Ella loved her siblings, and she shared herself unselfishly to her family and friends. She went to the bedside of her daughter Mildred and cared for her for five years until her passing. She had amazing strength and courage, and would remind you everyday that God loves you and so did she. Ella enjoyed traveling, attending sporting events, and attending family gatherings. She also loved quilting, gardening, having garage sales, and collecting antiques. Ella was a kind-nurturing grandmother, and had a beautiful relationship with them. She will be missed and always remembered and loved by her family and church family. Mrs. Ella Mae Chunn leaves to cherish her memory: nine children, Joan Chunn, Michael (Charlene) Chunn, Perry S. Chunn, Henry Gross Jr., Ella Marie (Booker) Hurner, Linda Gross-Walker, Kerry L. Chunn, Howard B. Chunn, David (Adonica) Chunn; one son in law, Lonnie D. Walker; thirty-four grandchildren, James Kyjohn Gross, Naquito (Raven) Gross, Torey Gross, Eric Hurner, Grant (Maggie) Hurner, Kim Powell, Lynne (Nathan) Cureton, Shawntamia (Wanda) Brown, Kamili Brown, Worthern (Sophia) Brown, Keon Walker, Leon Walker, Brandon, Dayna, Denovese, Damara and Alania Gross, Amena Norris, Michael Chunn Jr., Chelsea Cook, Kelly Davis, Tachina Chunn, China Chunn, Davon Chunn, Daleisha Chunn, Aries Chunn, Kerry Johnson, Monica Chunn, Evqenia Chunn, Teriesia German, Traqueon German, Geraldine Landry, Tyrell Landry, Darnell Smith; five sisters, Anna Harris, Bernice Majors, Ruth Johnson, Gladys Evans, Maryann Evans; four brothers, Moses Evans, Clifford (Lillie Mae) Evans, James (Marlene) Evans, George (Trina) Evans; sister in laws; Mary Lee Huges, Ella Mae Robertson, Geraldine (Bunney) Lewis, Elizabeth Baily; brother in laws, Charlie (Victoria) Gross, King "Grady" Gross and George Gross; special nephews, Kenio Johnson and David Harris and a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Brian Adams, Alice Faye Jones, Brenda Reid, Brenda Pippen, Lisa Chretien, Lois Wright, Michael Adams, Keon Green, Brian Adams, Alan Payne and Brenda Reid. Mrs. Ella Mae Chunn was preceded in death by her husbands, Perry Chunn and Howard Teer; former husband, Henry Gross Sr.; daughter, Mildred Ann Gross-Alexander; parents, Herman and Johnella Evans Sr.; brother, Herman "Buddy" Evans Jr.; daughter in law, Ida Lupina Gross; sister in laws, Leola Vann and Lubertha Ratcliff.
