HALL, Mr. Gilbert E. "Duke" "Our Hero" Sr - Age 73, passed away Thursday, November 3, 2011 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Oakland. Family hour 10:30 AM Saturday, November 12, 2011 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 N. Perry St., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11:00AM. Pastor Marshall Hall, officiating. Interment Perry Mount Park Cemetery, 878 N. Perry St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 AM Saturday, Mr. Hall will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from Noon-8PM Friday. Mr. Gilbert Earl Hall, Sr., was born April 24, 1938 in Covington, Tennessee, the son of the late Lillian and Earl Hall, Sr. He resided in Pontiac, MI. He relocated from Tennessee in 1969 to Detroit, Michigan. He loved God with all his heart and Confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized as a child at Smith Grove Baptist Church in Tennessee. Gilbert was educated in the Tennessee school district. He was employed at GM BOC Lake Orion where he worked and retired after twenty three years of service. He was a fisherman, a chef that loved to cook, loved sports especially baseball in which he played as a young man, and people. Gilbert felt his children, grandchildren and family were his pride and joy. He didn’t meet a stranger, loved to help people, was kind, loving and a Hero to many. He loved to sing and be around family and friends. He loved music and played the Harmonica. Mr. Hall leaves to cherish his memory: daughters, Chandra N. Johnson and Gilbretta Maria Hall both of Pontiac, MI; and son, Gilbert T. (Yekisha) Hall of Auburn Hills, MI; step child, Ocie Boyd of Memphis, TN; grandchildren, Jaymes E. Johnson of Pontiac, MI, and Amandah G. and Ashleigh F. Hall both of Auburn Hills, MI; sister, Mattie (Preston) Randle; brothers, Earl (Maxine) Hall, Jr., Oscar Hall and James (Lula) Hall; former wife, Pearl Moore of Pontiac, MI; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Mr. Hall was preceded in death by his parents, Lillian and Earl Hall, Sr; sisters, Emma M. Holland and Ollie L. Tate; brothers, Lloyd, Tommie, Bennie Hayes and Shirrell Hall. The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Prakash Sanghvi and Staff, Staff at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, all prayers and condolences throughout this journey.
