Lois Holmes

HOLMES, Mrs. Lois - age 74, passed away Friday, February 24, 2012 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Oakland. Family hour 11:30AM Friday March 2, 2012 at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 174 Branch St., with funeral service commencing immediately at 12Noon. Pastor Keyon S. Payton, officiating. Interment Perry Mount Park Cemetery, 878 N. Perry St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11:30AM Friday. Mrs. Holmes will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 N. Perry St., and may be viewed from 2-8PM Thursday. Mrs. Lois Holmes was born to late Mr. Roger and Willie Williams on November 3, 1937 in Winona, Texas. She departed this life on February 24, 2012. Lois and her family moved from Winona to Tyler, Texas. It was in Tyler that she professed her faith at an early age and joined New Zion Baptist Church, after graduating top of her class from Emmett Scott High School. She then went on to pursue a mathematics degree from Texas College. Lois made her permanent home in Pontiac, Michigan where she fulfilled her most important role, that of wife and mother. She was employed by General Motors for twenty –six years and served in various supervisory positions. Lois united with New Bethel Baptist Church in 1981under the pasturage of the late Reverend Amos G. Johnson and remained there until her death. She loved serving the Lord along with her husband Melvin C. Holmes. The Sunday worship experience would always continue in the Holmes household. Whatever her church family asked of her, she was always willing to accommodate. Lois loved many activities such as gardening, cooking, tax preparation, traveling and reading, but her all time favorite activity was relaxing in her meticulous yard with her husband and family. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Lorine Ross of Kansas City, Missouri and brothers E.C. Williams and Roger Williams both of Tyler, Texas. Precious memories will be cherished by her husband of thirty years, Melvin Clarence Holmes, son and stepson, Charles (Michelle) Butler, and Jamie Holmes, daughter and stepdaughters, Sandra (Antwoine) Smith, Juanita Holmes, Athalie (Robert) Harris, Barbara (Charles) Carroll, and Bridgett Robinson, sisters, Gracie Osby of Omaha, Nebraska, and Celestine (T.C.) Porter of Tyler, Texas, brother-in-law, Collins Holmes of Chicago, Illinois, special friend, Elizabeth Jones and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
