THOMAS, Mother Emma Jean - age 85, passed away, Thursday, June 12, 2014 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Oakland. Family hour 10:00AM Wednesday June 18, 2014 at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 174 Branch St., with funeral service commencing at 11AM. Pastor Keyon S. Payton, officiating. Interment Perry Mount Park Cemetery, 878 N. Perry St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10AM Wednesday. Mother Thomas will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 N. Perry St., and may be viewed from 1-8PM Tuesday. Mother Emma Jean Thomas was granted her Angel Wings on June 12, 2014 at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital. Mother Emma Jean Thomas was born December 26, 1928 in Blandville, Kentucky to the late Leonard and Maryland Jenkins. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church for over fifty years. Mother Thomas served in numerous ministries such as: the Mother’s Board, Deaconess Board, Sunday School Teacher, Church Office Aide, Senior Choir and the Missionary Department Mother Thomas was a nurse at Pontiac General Hospital and Clarkston Specialty Health Care Center in Clarkston, Michigan. She loves to crochet, travel, read her Bible, shop at Macy’s and spend time with family and friends. Mother Thomas leaves to cherish her memory: children, Tyrone ( Mary) Coleman of Cairo, IL and David (Tonia) Lee of Pontiac, MI; grandchildren, Brian Coleman of Orange County, CA, Lamar (Laura), Jamal and Kyle, Lee of Brockton, MA, Charles, Nyhisha, Maggie, Yassmin and Justin Lee of Oakland, CA, Deonta (Penny) Musgraves of Pontiac, MI, David McGlown of Troy, MI, Yentyl (Xavier) Crawford of Waterford, MI; eleven great grandchildren; one sister, Saundra (Pete) Stegar of Auburn Hills, MI; daughter-in-law, Bettie Lee of Brockton, MA; sister-in-law, Elvia Mae Jenkins; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Mother Thomas was preceded in death by her husband, Deacon Ralph Thomas; two sons, Carletus and Charles Lee; parents, Leonard and Maryland Jenkins; two brothers, Dr. Henry Leonard Jenkins and Charlie Joe Jenkins; sister, Barbara Porter. The family would like to express special thanks to Regency of Waterford Nursing Home, St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital, Pastor Keyon and Lady Eve S. Payton and the entire New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church Family.
