Phyllis "Phil" Hatcher

HATCHER, Ms. Phyllis Marie - Age 57, passed away Monday June 25, 2012 at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital. Family hour 10:30AM Monday July 1, 2012 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 N. Perry St., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11AM. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home 10:30AM Monday. Ms. Hatcher will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 10AM-6PM Sunday. Ms. Phyllis Marie Hatcher was born June 26, 1954 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of the late Louis Hatcher and Marie Peterman. Phyllis affectionately known as "Phil" was a long time resident of Pontiac, Michigan. She was educated in the Pontiac School System. Phyllis was baptized in Jesus name and filled with the Holy Ghost at Bethlehem Temple in Pontiac, Michigan, under the leadership of the late Pastor Roland Carr. Phyllis was the proud mother of two sons, Eric Deon and Kenneth Jerome Hatcher, who she affectionately called her "Vanilla" and "Chocolate." Her pride and joy was being around her grandchildren. In 1990, Phyllis met the love of her life Major "Babe" Smith. Phyllis and Major enjoyed their quiet time together and would go to the "Mill Dam" to fish for "Blue Gills." During her illness Major "Babe" stayed by her side, and for this the family is very grateful. Phyllis was an avid book reader. She loved to work on Puzzles and to Draw. She had a passion for cooking as well. She loved to challenge herself by trying different recipes from her collection of "cook books." Her favorite dish was "Chicken and Dressing." Phyllis also enjoyed to sing, and was the families own "Phyllis Hyman." Phyllis also had a heart to volunteer and would do so at the Pontiac Lighthouse. Her many acts and deeds will truly be missed by the family and her friends. Ms. Hatcher leaves to cherish her memory: two sons, Eric Deon (Menosha) Hatcher and Kenneth Jerome Hatcher; loving, long time companion and dedicated supportive partner, Major "Babe" Smith; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two sister, Williette Munson of Pontiac, MI and Melinda Peterman; brother, Robert Hatcher both of Detroit, MI; sister-in-law, Sandra Harper of Pontiac, MI; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Ms. Hatcher was preceded in death by her parents, Louis Hatcher and Marie Peterman; step-father, Jeffie Peterman; brother, Gary Traylor.
