Samuel "Sammy" Barnes

BARNES, Mr. Samuel Lee "Sammy" - Age 77, passed Friday, June 29, 2007 at his residence. Family hour 10AM Thursday, July 5, 2007 at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, 46408 Woodward Ave. Pontiac, Michigan. Monsignor William Easton, officiating. Interment Perry Mount Park Cemetery, Pontiac, Michigan. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church at 10AM Thursday. Mr. Barnes will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 N. Perry St., and may be viewed from 1-8p.m. Wednesday. Mr. Samuel Lee "Sammy" Barnes was born October 26, 1929 in Bardstown, Kentucky, the son of Samuel G. and Anna Lula Barnes. ?Sammy? met and married Betsy in 1945, and shortly thereafter moved to Pontiac, Michigan. "Sammy" and Betsy later had seven children. Mr. Barnes was known for his easygoing and carefree spirit. "Sammy" always invited you to his dinner table for Southern Fried Chicken, Salmon Croquets and Fried Apples. He was never the one for trendy clothes he always wore his "Coveralls". "Sammy" worked at General Motors for over thirty years. He was a dedicated and devoted member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, where he served on the Usher Board, and the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Also, he helped people in need in the local community. Mr. Barnes leaves to cherish his memory: wife Betsy Barnes of Pontiac; daughters, Alethea Hall of Pontiac, Babara (Daniel) Haymond of Denver, CO, Patricia Tadesse of Denver, CO, Susan Barnes of Atlanta, GA, Lisa (Robert) Barnes-Fitch of Superior Twp., MI; sons, Joseph Barnes of Pontiac, Ronald Murray and Donald Payne of Louisville, KY; grandchildren, Jessica Corr of Pontiac, Izra Tadesse of Denver, CO, Angela Moss of Atlanta, GA, Lauren Tadesse of Denver, CO, Karmel (Nathan) McCoy and Jay Haynes of Witchtia, TX, Jennifer Corr of Pontiac, Alicia (Kornell) Wiggins of Auburn Hills; great-grandchildren, Jared, Arak, Elijah, Symphony, Justice, Alayna; sister, Hattie Owens of Louisville, KY; special nephew, Bill Bard of Pontiac; and a host of other relatives. Mr. Barnes was preceded in death by his daughter, Vivian Corr; Lillian Lamar. The family would like to express special thanks to all who helped during our time of need.
