Violet "Oneri" Nichols-Hawkins

NICHOLS-HAWKINS, Mrs. Violet "Oneri" - age 82, passed away, Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at Henry Ford Hospital Detroit. Family hour 11:00AM Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at Church of Lord Jesus Christ, 404 Ceasar Chavez, with funeral service commencing immediately at 11:30AM. Pastor Theresa Lee, Officiating, Bishop Rosezell Rutley, Presiding, Bishop Lorenzo Turner, Host Pastor. Interment Perry Mount Park Cemetery, 878 N. Perry St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11:00AM Tuesday. Mrs. Nichols-Hawkins will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 N. Perry St., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Monday. Mother Violet Hawkins was born May 19, 1931 in Mound, Illnois to the late Isiah and Rachel Nichols. She was the youngest of three children born. Mother Hawkins confessed Christ at an early age, and later united with New Birth International Church were she served faithfully and with dedication as a member of the Mother’s Board. Early in life Mother Hawkins worked at the Forge and Socket Plant and Pontiac Motors. She decided to take a new career path and focused for over forty years to service others specifically troubled teen girls. Mother Hawkins had a special ability to encourage and motivate young women to tune their lives around while developing a closer relationship with God. She also, worked as a Correction Officer in Pontiac and Clinton Valley Facility, while raising nine children and generously serving the Lord. Mother Hawkins cherished and loved her children; and her children cherished and loved her. Mother Hawkins continuously prayed for her children and as a child was born, she dedicated each of her nine children to the Lord Jesus Christ. Mother Hawkins, “Loved” the Lord. She faithfully believed in the word of God, Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not turn from it.” Mother Violet Hawkins leaves to cherish her memory: her loving children, Charlotte Jones, Iva (James) Simpson Sr., Armon (Diane) Nichols, Sharon (Joe) Holloway, Rose Marie (Larry) Brinker Sr., Jerry (Regina) Hawkins Jr., Donnell (Elisha) Hawkins, Patricia (Ken) Hairston, Radean (Jean) Jones; twenty-seven grandchildren; twenty nine great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Geraldine Taylor; two brother-in-laws, Hayward Hawkins and Ivory Hawkins Sr.; numerous children in the community in which she raised and a host of relatives and friends. Mother Hawkins was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Hawkins Sr.; brothers, Robert and Emory Nichols Sr.; son-in-law, Willie L. Jones. The Hawkins family would like to thank the Lawrence E.
