Willie M. "Mack" Redmond

REDMOND, Mrs. Willie M. "Mack" -age 75, passed away Sunday July 21, 2013 at her residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Friday, July 26, 2013 at Newman AME Church, 233 Bagley Street, with funeral service commencing at 11:00AM. Omega Service wil be held under the auspices of the Ladies of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc at 10:30AM Friday at the church. Interment Oak Hill Cemetery, 216 University Drive. Pastor Alfred Johnson, officiating. Rev. Thomas Hughes, Eulogist. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00AM Friday. Mrs. Redmond will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 N. Perry St., and may be viewed from 2PM-8PM Thursday. Family will be present to receive friends from 6:00PM-8:00PM. Mrs. Willie Magnolia “Mack” Redmond was born January 16, 1938 in Helena Arkansas to the late Silas Cooper and Florence Mae Andrews. She confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at St. Peter Baptist Church in Helena, Arkansas. She moved to Cleveland, OH in 1954, and united with Shiloh Baptist Church. In 1956, she moved to Pontiac, Michigan and joined New Bethel Baptist Church and became a devoted and faithful member who was always first to arrive for Sunday School. She served as Director of the New Bethel Shelter and enjoyed ministering to others, especially her elderly friends, until her health prevented her from doing so. She married Charles “DIT” Redmond in 1960 and together they raised their family. Magnolia earned her Diploma from Eliza Miller High School in Helena, Arkansas. She earned her Master’s Degree from Oakland University. She retired from Clinton Valley Center Hospital with over thirty years of service. Magnolia was active in her community and served on NAACP Pontiac Branch, The National Association Negro Business and Professional Women Inc., President of the Pontiac School Board and was a zealous member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc! Magnolia Redmond will be remembered as a leader, never a follower! She was strong, faithful, dedicated, loyal and highly respected. Mrs. Redmond leaves to cherish her memory: children, Richard (Michelle) Redmond of Auburn Hills, MI, Steven (Sharon) Redmond of Pontiac, MI, Michael Kerley of Birmingham, AL, Daphne K. Stagger of Pontiac, MI, Gregory Redmond of Pontiac, MI, Christopher (Alesse) Redmond of Melvindale, MI, Rita (Lee) Bowman; fifteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; four sisters, Rose A. Stewart of Cleveland, OH, Florence (Martin) Magadaleno of Chicago, IL, Bobbie (Will) Holloway of Chicago, IL, Matilda Dillard of Hayti, MO; brother, George Andrews of Chicago, IL; a host nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Redmond was preceded in death by her parents, Silas Cooper Andrews and Florence Mae Sumpter; great grandson, Ayden Jones; three sisters, Frankie Jackson, Mary C. Jackson and Drewcilla Oliver; two brothers, James T. Miller and Nelson Jackson; brother-in-law, Prince Stewart. The family would like to express special thanks to Season’s Hospice, the staff of Regency, Rudy Williams, Nethia Fowler, Kenneth Wheat, Claudia Wheat-Howell.
